A Mobiuz Strip of Pros and Cons

As a midrange-priced 1080p gaming display, BenQ’s latest Mobiuz model is just a bit too pricey for what’s on offer, especially given the barebones port loadout and the plastic base. The EX2510S’s performance in the gaming scenarios it was built to handle is certainly exceptional, though. The low input lag and overall responsive feel added up to some major wins, both in formal testing, and on our personal esports scoreboard during our multiplayer gaming trials.

Because of the so-so picture quality, though, its HDR rating might as well not be included, and the base brightness isn’t high enough to make up the difference as a primary content-watching and -creation monitor. This leaves the Mobiuz in a bit of a specific tight spot, being great for games where speed is paramount, but below par for general content enjoyment and work. Those who like to watch movies just often as play games might consider better-balanced options like the Fast IPS-based Acer Nitro XV252Q F instead.

144Hz provides you with significantly smoother motion clarity in video games for a more enjoyable as well as more responsive gaming experience.

BenQ’s Blur Reduction technology allows for 1ms MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time) via backlight strobing for improved motion clarity, whereas the GtG (gray to gray pixel transition) amounts to 2ms GtG.

The measured input lag of the BenQ EX2510 amounts to only four milliseconds of delay, which means that you won’t be able to feel any delays between your actions and the result on the screen.

Moving on, there are four response time overdrive modes labeled as ‘AMA’ (Advanced Motion Accelerator) ranging from 0 to 3.

For the best pixel transition performance at 144Hz, we recommend setting it to ‘2’, while at lower refresh rates, ‘1’ is the better option. Overall, the response time is fast and there’s no noticeable ghosting behind fast-moving objects.

As it’s the case with all IPS monitors, some IPS glow is present and its intensity varies across different units of the monitor.

Fast, Really Fast – Yet Practical

In addition to a 144Hz refresh rate, the MOBIUZ EX2510 and EX2710 have been carefully optimized for minimal lag. The moving picture response time (or MPRT) stands at just 1ms, while grey to grey comes in at 2ms. Either way, you’re looking at e-sports, competitive-grade responsiveness that gives you lightning quick gaming without annoying levels of input lag. Since they’re 1080p FHD gaming monitors, you don’t need a monster PC to get the full 144 frames per second. These are monitors designed for gamers who live in the real world and who may not have an inclination to spend ludicrous sums building the next Skynet. A down to earth setup will drive the EX2710 and EX2510 just fine, allowing pretty much everyone who uses them to get the full benefit of their performance potential.

Of course you get FreeSync variable refresh rate to ensure screen tearing stays away, that goes without saying (even though we just said it!).

Design & Connectivity

The design of the monitor has a rather eye-catching orange strip which might not appeal to some users. Luckily, the stand is detachable while the screen has a 100x100mm VESA mount pattern.

Other than that, the stand is quite sturdy and offers a fair range of ergonomics including up to 130mm height adjustment, +/- 20° swivel, and -5°/20° tilt, but no pivot function.

The screen has a 3H matte anti-glare coating which eliminates reflections without adding a grainy effect to the picture, and there’s a cable management hole with an I/O cover.

Connectivity options include two HDMI 2.0 ports, DisplayPort 1.2, a headphones jack, and two 2.5W built-in speakers with DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and customized sound modes (Game, Cinema, and Pop/Live).

Both HDMI and DP support FreeSync up to 144Hz at 1920×1080.

Price & Similar Monitors

The BenQ EX2510 price amounts to ~$250. It’s also available as a 27″ model for $300, the BenQ MOBIUZ EX2710, but we don’t recommend it due to its lower pixel density and considerably higher price tag.

Both models are available as newer versions, the BenQ EX2510S and EX2710S with a 165Hz factory-overclocked refresh rate, but these are even more expensive and not as good.

Nowadays, you can find a 1080p 240Hz 1ms IPS gaming monitor for ~$250, the Dell S2522HG, which is a much better option for competitive gamers.

Alternatively, there are excellent 27″ 1440p 144Hz IPS displays that sometimes go on sale for $250, such as the Acer XV272UV and the HP X27q, which offer better immersion provided you have a good enough GPU.

As far as the 1080p 144Hz IPS models go, we recommend the AOC 24G2 and the LG 24GN650/600, which can be found for $200 and offer similar image quality and performance to the EX2510. The LG 24GN650 is just as fast as the EX2510, while the AOC 24G2 is a bit slower, but has a wider color gamut.

Another option worth considering is the Acer XB253QGP, which uses the same panel as the EX2510 and goes for $230 on sale.

Офигеть я такой производительности ещё не видел у 1080р 144 ипс при одном Овердрайв моде. Да и отзывчивость на высоком уровне, учитывая цену в $250 оч годная покупка. Фулл обзор на hardware unboxed.

Очень понравился монитор. Удобно организовано переключение между профилями, играю на одном, использую монитор для остальных задач на другом. Отличная подставка и поворотный механизм «влево-вправо-вверх-вниз», настроить можно одним пальцем, очень легко ходит по оси. Отсутствует возможность повернуть в портретный режим, для кого-то это может быть критично. Цветопередача порадовала. Покупкой не разочарован. Могу ответить на вопросы, если кому интересен данный монитор.

Mobiuz: немного урезанный дизайн

Hear, Hear

We wrote “hear” twice because the EX2710 and EX2510 ship with two powerful 2.5W speakers. You may think a total of five watts isn’t all that much, but that’s because you may not know about BenQ treVolo sound design. treVolo tech has been part of BenQ displays for quite some time and has been very well-received by media and users alike. treVolo speakers use reactive, intelligent sound control, premium components and materials, and custom audio modes to provide you with a better listening experience. That goes for gaming, where positional sound and various effects emerge with superior clarity, as well as for movies, TV, music, and even chat. Everything sounds better with treVolo. Again, these are NOT your basic tin can 1080p FHD econo-speakers. These are sound movers that derive from much more expensive monitors, and they’re here uncut and uncompromised.

So why are the MOBIUZ EX2710 and EX2510 different? They combine the speed, agility, and simplicity of e-sports minded FHD gaming monitors with a slew of premium features from up-range models. You can’t beat that combo.

Testing the Mobiuz EX2510S: Great for Games, HDR Less So

As mentioned, this 1080p display boasts an IPS panel with a native refresh rate of 165Hz (with no overclocks supported on the refresh rate). Rated for HDR10, the EX2510S supports AMD FreeSync Premium. We put the EX2510S through our standard gaming-monitor test regimen using a Datacolor SpyderX Elit(Opens in a new window)e(Opens in a new window) colorimeter. Here’s what we saw…

Testing the display in the default picture mode with an SDR signal, the BenQ showed a peak brightness of 288.5 nits, just a hair above its 280-nit rating, with a black level of 0.33 nits. That works out to a contrast ratio of 870:1, which falls a bit below its rated 1,000:1.

Switching over to HDR testing, we were able to see some surprising bumps in that brightness up to 406.1 nits, a bar that many HDR10 monitors shoot for but only a few clear. Alas, as we’ll get into below, that brightness result didn’t always translate to the kind of image quality you should expect from a $300 1080p display.

The Mobiuz EX2510S’s coverage of both the sRGB and Adobe RGB gamuts was below that of many other models we’ve tested lately at just 96% and 75%, respectively, while DCI-P3 coverage sat at just 79%. That is much lower than what we’ve seen from competing Fast IPS-based panels of late, and below par for content creators overall.

Coming off those results, the Mobiuz put up a better-than-average Delta E (dE) color accuracy reading of just 1.68, which suggests a possible sub-1.0 reading with some careful tuning using BenQ’s extensive color configuration options.

The Mobiuz Mission: 1080p Play on a Speedy Panel

The Mobiuz EX2510S is a 24.5-inch-diagonal monitor with 1,920-by-1,080-pixel native resolution and a 165Hz native refresh rate, built around an IPS panel.

The monitor is mounted on a stand similar to that of the Mobiuz EX3415R we reviewed earlier this year, and gamers may not take to that. For years, BenQ monitors have been performance-first, design-second products, and that heritage shows here. A sole orange stripe runs across the triangular plastic base of the monitor to signify its «gaming»-ness, and the stand is not as stable as we’d like.

Apart from the stripe, that is all the Mobiuz does to set its cabinet apart from, say, that of an office monitor. The adjustability is above average, though, with -5 to 20 degrees of vertical tilt, wide 178-degree viewing angles (both side-to-side and up-and-down), and a swivel range of -20 to 20 degrees. The display cannot pivot 90 degrees between landscape and portrait modes.

BenQ’s onscreen display (OSD) menu is controlled by a five-way joystick at the right rear of the unit, flanked by three other control buttons underneath. The recently updated OSD offers up smorgasbord of customization options and settings, and presents all of it in one of the most easily navigable formats we’ve seen on a gaming display.

Pushing right on the joystick brings up a sort of «hot menu,» where you can change profiles, tweak the brightness, and add a custom section for the setting of your choosing. This makes it quick and easy to swap between setting profiles and creating your own. Of the things this monitor does right, its OSD is one of its top highlights.

As for ports, the Mobiuz’s $299.99 price leaves a bit to be desired on that front. On the underside of the cabinet, we found just two HDMI 2.0 ports, plus one DisplayPort 1.4b input, these alongside a 3.5mm headphone jack for use with the HDMI audio pass-through. No USB upstream or downstream connections here; only the basics.

MOBIUZ EX2710 and EX2510 gaming monitors buck industry trends by bringing premium features such as quality IPS panels, HDR, and treVolo audio to 144Hz, 1ms FHD 1080p models aimed at discerning gamers.

For gamers that want high speed and response without compromising on image quality, sound, and overall presentation, the MOBIUZ EX2710 and EX2510 have the goods. These gaming monitors pack a whole lot of features into a convenient and attractive form factor, while maintaining a price point that won’t force you into taking out another loan at the bank. Recently, 1080p FHD gaming monitors have become associated with barebones e-sports products that focus entirely on high refresh rates while throwing everything else out the window. None of that with the 144Hz, 1ms MPRT MOBIUZ monitors, which bring to bear lovely IPS panels, HDR, and powerful sound.

Design and Features

The BenQ Mobiuz EX2510 and its bigger brother, the EX2710 have been refreshed when it comes to aesthetics, so they aren’t as serious-looking as the XL models. The monitor has a matte black finish and it’s mated to a metallic stand with a dash of red on its base The monitor is bezel-free on three sides for a better view, but inner borders are still present when the display is in use.

One noticeable improvement on the Mobiuz monitors is that they are sleeker and they take up less space than BenQ’s other offerings. The device only needs 8.5 inches of depth, while the cabinet itself needs considerably less if you decide to mount it. It’s also not that heavy at 12.4 lbs, so it is portable for LAN parties if you tend to rearrange your room quite often.

Build quality is excellent just like any of BenQ’s monitors since they don’t skimp on material quality and craftsmanship. The plastics feel thick and solid, and there are no cosmetic defects on all edges and surfaces. The monitor also stands stable while its adjustment mechanism is firm enough to hold the view angle you’ve dialed in almost permanently.

You don’t get the usual gaming extras with the BenQ Mobiuz EX2510 such as the S-Switch Arc/hotkey puck, or even RGB lighting. However, you will notice a notch at the bottom of the bezel which functions as the monitor’s Brightness Intelligence sensor. It’s nice for long hours of productivity, but feedback from gamers say that using it can affect the colors of a game too much.

The BenQ Mobiuz EX2510 has an OSD joystick for easy access to its menus, but it also has an Extreme Control feature that lets you customize shortcuts to the OSD for quicker inputs. We’re glad that manufacturers are now proactive in improving their monitors’ functionality, including this minor aspect. That doesn’t mean much for plug and play users, but serious gamers who like to tweak on the fly will love add-ons like this.

The stand included with the BenQ Mobiuz EX2510 offers tilt, swivel, and height adjustments for getting a view angle that helps you focus is quite easy. You can’t pivot the monitor, but that’s ok since this model was not meant as a secondary for reading stream chats or looking at your temperatures. You can opt for a VESA mount, but it is only necessary if you need to save space or if you have multiple displays on your desk.

The BenQ Mobiuz EX2510’s connectivity includes DisplayPort 1.2, two HDMI 2.0 slots, and a 3.5mm jack for headphones. You don’t get extras like USB ports, but it’s one of the monitors that can accommodate a PS5 or Xbox Series and run at 120Hz 1080p with no fuss. BenQ tested it themselves with this monitor, so getting 120Hz from the two consoles is guaranteed using the HDMI ports.

The BenQ Mobiuz EX2510 even includes a pair of speakers with 2.5 watts of output power. The sound quality isn’t particularly ground-breaking, but it is always nice to have a secondary set for uses outside of competitive gaming.
